FUZL After Care Pack Instructions

Cleaning Your Wooden Surfaces

You needn’t be overly precious, treating your Working Surfaces with kid gloves might make the process of owning a piece of furniture all too stressful.

The basic rule of thumb is:

The more you increase the concentration of your detergent; the more abrasive or caustic the cleaning agent...

=

A greater frequency of after-care applications needed.

We recommend that you wipe the Working Surfaces with a damp household sponge or cloth after each meal or tidy up.

We use diluted household washing-up liquid (the suds from the washing up will do nicely).

If you feel unsure, do not hesitate to contact us.

Welcome to Caring for Wood

FUZL’s wooden products and surfaces are finished with VOC-free and food-safe advanced oils; basically, our surfaces are really well suited to the rigours of modern life, so relax.

The great thing about natural surfaces is that they look better with age and can roll with their bruises. So, your table or chair, shelving or coasters will grow to be more beautiful and individual with every passsing year. (Scratches, stains and dents need to be expected and as far as we’re concerned celebrated.)

Most serious blemishes can be remedied with an ointment or tincture; an abrasive pad & elbow-grease. But, we recommend that you keep on top of the condition of your Working Surfaces* so that they continue to repell water and dirt many years from now.

After all, the care of your wooden surfaces can be cathartic and rewarding when you’ve got the knack.

If you’re new to this though, we expect that it might be a bit daunting the first few attempts, especially with your lovely new piece of furniture - don’t worry it’s no stress - no special knowledge or experience is needed.

The following instructions are pretty short, so to help out we’ve got a few more resources prepared for you:

1. If you scan the QR code on the front cover, you’ll be taken to the instructions page on our website. Look there for any videos that deal with ‘After-care’,

2. Look for ‘After-care’ in the footer at: www.fuzl.co, we may update these instructions from time to time,

3. If you have any questions at all, just book in to have a video call with us and we’ll endeavour to help you digitally.

4. Or it is often easier to ping us an email: info@fuzl.co

* Working Surfaces are those exposed wooden faces of your furniture that experience the hardest wear and tear and/or cleaning.

Table tops, cabinet tops and coasters are good examples.

A

Pre-care Soap

Use A to clean your working surface before any after-care oiling (with either B or C).

The soap will help to remove dirt and grease without leaving a film on the surface prior to oiling.

A is concentrated, mix with water (1prt A to 10prt water).

INSTRUCTIONS:

1. Dust off any debris from the surface with a dry cloth.

2. Clean the surface with the diluted mixture using a sponge.

3. Allow to dry for 15 minutes.

4. Continue with instructions for B or C...

Important: Use soap solution sparingly, excess water is not needed. Wipe off any water and/or solution, do not oil the surface until it is completely dry.

B

Maintenance Oil*

Intended for use throughout the life of your table as an after-care remedy for hard working wooden surfaces.

The frequency of applications will depend on the types/severity of daily use. You will come to have a sense for when the wood needs conditioning as your experience grows.

If in doubt seek further advice from our instructional videos by following the QR code on the front of this pamphlet.

INSTRUCTIONS:

We think that after-care oiling is pretty satisfying. Even if you prefer to put it off, if carried out occasionally, it will maintain the barrier against water and dirt for years to come.

1. First follow the cleaning instructions for A...

2. Ensure the room is well ventilated and wear protective gloves.

3. Apply B to the wood with a clean rag. Work in circles, trying to manipulate the oil across the surface.

4. Leave oil on the surface for 15mins then remove any residual oil with disposable kitchen towel.

5. Surface will be ‘touch-dry’ 3-6 hours after application depending on room temperature.

Important Note: in the week following application restrict the cleaning of working surfaces to the minimum and only with water (detergents will reverse the effects of the oil until it has fully cured).

Tip: On larger surfaces work in segments so that you can wipe the residual oil from all surfaces 15mins after application.

For a bit of practice: if you have our coasters, have a go on one of those first to get the knack.

C

Pigmented Oil*

Intended for use when signs of colour fade present themselves. The application of this Pigmented Oil will refresh and nourish the wood in the same way that the Maintenance Oil will but with the added benefit of refreshing the colour of your working surface.

(For more routine after-care use the Maintenance Oil B.)

INSTRUCTIONS:

1. First follow the cleaning instructions for A...

2. Ensure the room is well ventilated and wear protective gloves.

3. Apply C to the wood with a clean rag. Work in circles, trying to manipulate the oil across the surface.

4. Leave oil on the surface for 15mins then remove any residual oil with disposible kitchen towel.

5. Surface will be ‘touch-dry’ 3-6 hours after application depending on room temperature.

Important Note: in the week following application restrict the cleaning of working surfaces to the minimum and only with water (detergents will reverse the effects of the oil until it has fully cured).

Tip: C can be used to treat even a localised area of high wear in order to even out the appearance of any damage.

*ATTENTION:

B (Maintenance Oil) and C (Pigmented Oil) may NOT be diluted! Cloths, saturated with these oils, can spontaneously combust if improperly disposed of. After usage, any fabrics or materials holding or covered with oil (B or C) must be soaked in water before disposal.
